Community Vaccinations Update

[30-6-2021 6:15pm]

Please be advised due to South 32 Covid precautionary measures, the 100 vaccinations provided by South 32 for community will now be distributed at the Angurugu Clinic. There will still be buses running in both Umbakumba and Angurugu, transporting people to and from the Angurugu Clinic.

The 24 seater bus for Umbakumba will depart Alyangula at 8am, arriving in Umbakumba at approximately 9am and will lap community until full, before returning to Angurugu. The bus service in Angurugu will kick off at approximately 9.30am. The clinic will initiate vaccinations at 9.30am.

A BBQ will operate for those vaccinated!

Thank you to all those who have assisted in making these last minute changes happen.

We look forward to seeing plenty of TO’s faces tomorrow!

Feel free to call me should you require any further information.

Kind Regards

Groote Eylandt stakeholder information

[30th June 2021 3:45pm]

  • There is currently no COVID detected in Arnhem Land or the Groote Archipelago;
  • Government and service providers should still be operating as Business As usual;
  • There have been some people asked to stay home while we await COVID test results, who had travelled from interstate. They all tested negative and have no additional exposure risk factors;
  • Passengers on flights from QLD yesterday were instructed to return to QLD as an extra precaution due to the Brisbane hotspot announcement;
  • Darwin and Alice Springs are in Lockdown to ensure COVID is contained.

Police update: Not true: rumours police locking down Umbakumba + Angurugu

[30/6/2021 Update from Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock, Alyangula Police]

  • There is no COVID on Groote Eylandt or in East Arnhem.
  • There are no closures of our services, no need for any extra controls.
  • Some residents and visitors flew into Groote and after they arrived, there were hotspots announced in the states they came from, but none of these people had been to those hotspots. Just to be sure, some of those travellers were asked to stay at home until they had a COVID test – and all were cleared with negative results.
  • Two GEMCO charter flights were in the air from Cairns when Brisbane was declared a hotspot. Even though none of these people had been to the places where COVID was listed, all of the passengers have been isolated overnight and are returning to Cairns today.
  • No-one who’s come to Groote recently has done the wrong thing, these extra precautions always happen when there’s been announcement from the government about new hotspots and border closures.
  • It’s fantastic to see support services in place for the extra vaccines and I hope all 100 are used. I had my second shot yesterday and feel really grateful that I can continue to work in out townships without being any risk to the people I come into contact with.

Separately, we have issued a NOTAM for the Darwin airport – only emergency aircraft are allowed to come from Darwin to Groote at the moment. Any flights other than Careflight or Police are only for Essential Workers, and their passenger list is checked and preapproved by Police and GEMCO prior to arrival.

Thanks again for your support and letting me know about this emerging issue. I’ll get some more messaging out this afternoon.

Cheers,Tanya

Community Vaccinations available this Thursday & Friday

Date of notice or action:

Notice text:

Subject: Community Vaccinations

It is with much gratitude we announce South 32 has made available 100 Covid Vaccinations for community residents. The vaccinations will be available this Thursday and Friday at the GEMCO Vaccination facility at the Alyangula ASEC Hall.

ALC will be operating return bus services for both Angurugu and Umbakumba communities and the Sealink bus service will operate a free service on these days also.

The Clinic will have doctors and nurses, familiar to community working alongside the GEMCO staff.

A BBQ will be available at the ASEC Hall for those receiving their vaccinations.

Whilst a bus service will be operating, due to the limited number of vaccinations, I encourage you to prioritise those of your community staff/board members and elders within your circles to bring them in early Thursday to ensure they receive their vaccination.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Thank you to all those involved, who are making this possible.

Kind Regards
