COVID-19 VACCINATION ROLLOUT UPDATE

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout was originally planned for Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island communities in late April; however, dates were deferred due to changes in the national vaccine rollout.

GEMCO will operate the Alyangula GEMCO vaccination program for its workforce and any Groote Eylandt residents wishing to book in, from 18 May – 2 July. GEMCO will provide further information to the community about this next week.

The broader NT Government led vaccination program for the Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island communities of Angurugu, Umbakumba and Milyakburra and the satellite communities will take place as below. Groote vacccine rollout postponed

Date of notice or action:
Friday, 16 April, 2021
Notice text:

The proposed COVID-19 vaccine rollout for Groote Eylandt on 27 April 2021 is being rescheduled due to changes in the National COVID-19 vaccine rollout. The COVID-19 vaccine rollout was planned to start between 27-30 April in Angurugu, Umbakumba and Alyangula. Milyakburra was scheduled for the following week. The NT Government is currently working closely with the Australian Government around the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine for Northern Territory, and this includes the Groote and Bickerton communities. Once the new schedule for the Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island vaccinations are available, the NT Government will share these with the whole community. The Northern Territory Government will also continue to work closely with GEMCO on the planned joint vaccine rollout from Alyangula.
